(DALLAS – May 7) Tom Joyner, the nationally syndicated radio personality and philanthropist, is set to give the commencement address at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, N.C.
Joyner, host of the Tom Joyner Morning Show and founder and chairman of the Tom Joyner Foundation, is scheduled to deliver his words of inspiration at 8 a.m. May 17 at the Irwin Belk Complex.
“You know I’m looking forward to celebrating the graduation with my Golden Bulls,” Joyner said. “It’s a happy day for me and I know it’s a big day for each one of these graduates who are ready to move on to their next steps.”
Dr. Ronald l. Carter, the university’s 13th president, said, “Tom Joyner’s generous spirit and dedication to philanthropy is a splendid example for JCSU’s graduating students, who are ready to embark upon their own world-changing journeys.”
Johnson C. Smith, located on a 100-acre campus near downtown Charlotte offers more than 1,400 students the opportunity to 23 fields of study. It is nearing completion on a 62,000 square-foot Science Center where it plans to provide courses in renewable energy, medical informatics, electronics and cyber security – robotics, analytics and bioinformatics. It’s also a member of the Clinton Global Initiative.
The Tom Joyner Foundation (http://tomjoynerfoundation.org) was founded in 1998 as the brainchild of nationally syndicated radio personality Tom Joyner. The mission of the Foundation is to support historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) with scholarships, endowments and capacity-building enhancements.
