On Monday, June 16th, the Tom Joyner Foundation and Huston- Tillotson University (HT) partnered to bring an event for the Austin community to ‘Discover HT’. This event brought supporters to create funds for this historically black university.
Huston- Tillotson, established in 1881, is the oldest institution of higher learning in Austin and the only HBCU in South Central Texas. Huston-Tillotson College officially changed its name to Huston-Tillotson University on February 28, 2005, and has increased enrollment each year. Students at this University consider HT to be a great small, family-like atmosphere with friendly faculty and staff who genuinely have your best interest at heart.
Huston-Tillotson University, a private University, has been named the July 2014 Tom Joyner Foundation School of the Month. This event was a great kickoff to help raise scholarship funds for students attending the university.
We want to thank Ms. Linda Jackson, Director of Public Relations and Marketing at Huston- Tillotson University and Austin Community College along with Chef Coi, from the hit television show Hell’s Kitchen. We also would like to thank our local sponsors Brown Distributing Company, Glazers, Rose ‘N Blum, and Sterling Vineyards.

About the Tom Joyner Foundation The Tom Joyner Foundation was founded in 1998 as the brainchild of nationally syndicated radio personality, Tom Joyner. The mission of the Foundation is to support historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) with scholarships, endowments and capacity-building enhancements. The Foundation has provided necessary support to every HBCU in its 16-year history to help sustain and preserve the legacies of these valuable institutions. Through fundraising and donor development initiatives, $65 million has been raised to support more than 29,000 students attending HBCUs. Additionally, the Foundation has recommended internships, offered matching grant support, and career development to deserving students.
