The Tom Joyner Foundation is recognizing Claflin University in Orangeburg, S.C. as the March 2014 School of the Month.
Proceeds from the school of the month campaign will benefit the FOCUS 100 Student Fund. Established in 2004, the fund provides assistance to those students who might otherwise be forced to forfeit attending school because of short-term financial hardships.

The foundation, formed by the nationally syndicated radio personality, chose Claflin as part of its on-going effort to assist these institutions in broadening and strengthening their efforts to raise money to help keep students attending HBCUs.
As one of the Tom Joyner Foundation ‘Schools of the Month’, each school will be promoted by the Tom Joyner Morning Show and receive those funds raised from listeners, alumni and other interested parties that month. The show, aired in 115 markets around the country, reaches nearly eight million listeners every week.
Claflin University was founded in 1869. The university is named in honor of Lee Claflin, a prominent Methodist layman from Boston, and his son William Claflin, then governor of Massachusetts.
The university is a comprehensive institution of higher education affiliated with the United Methodist Church. Claflin is committed to providing students with access to exemplary educational opportunities while fostering a rich community that nurtures and develops its students, faculty and staff into visionaries.
Claflin University has been recognized as the top Historically Black College or University in the country (Forbes.com),U.S. News and World Report’s “Guidebook to America’s Best Colleges” has included Claflin in its “Top Tier” rankings among comprehensive baccalaureate granting institutions in the South for 14 consecutive years, and is now recognized as a nationally ranked liberal arts institution by U.S. News and World Report, to name a few.
University president, Dr. Henry Tisdale, expressed his gratitude for Claflin as the Tom Joyner Foundation March 2014 school of the month.
