READING, Pa. — The Coppin State bowling team broke the school record for victories in a season on the strength of posting a 6-3 record in baker play at the Kutztown Invitational.
By recording a 6-9 overall record at the meet, the Eagles improved to 16-42 on the season. The 16 victories broke the previous record of 12 set by the 2011-12 team.
The Eagles opened tournament play by recording a 4-2 record in baker total pinfall matches. Coppin State defeated Cheyney (614-569), Penn State-Altoona (699-612), Medaille (687-668) and Salem International (677-418).
After recording an 0-6 record in team play, Coppin State bounced back to record a 2-1 record in baker best 4-of-7 play. The Eagles edged Morgan State (4-3) and Howard (4-3) before dropping a 4-2 decision to Florida A&M.
The Eagles were led by Kache Woods and Loren Johnston in team play. Woods averaged 174.3 pins per game and had a personal-best 218 game against Long Island. Johnston averaged 173.2 pins and posted a high game of 204 against Monmouth.
Erica Washington averaged 149.2 pins per game, while Kristen Sharpe averaged 143.7, Paige Arnold had a 140.5 average and Nicole Boggs averaged 123.3 per game.
