PINE BLUFF, Ark. -The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Art Department will feature an exhibit showing the works of Basil Watson, international sculptor in the Leedell Moorehead-Graham Fine Arts Gallery located in the Hathaway-Howard Fine Arts Building. The works of Basil Watson is an exemplary style of modern contemporary figurative sculpture. His interest and focus is the human form and his works are anchored with energy, vigor and the emotions of life. Basil Watson has been able to capture the exaggeration of movement, expression and attitudes of portraying the human condition using clay, marble, stone, bronze resin casting and plaster. These sculptures and drawings come across as being very modeled, yet subtle in plasticity and complex in design.  They serve as a palette of close observation and the natural essence of the human form.

Basil Watson’s works have been selected for numerous public and major commissions across the nation.  He has been commissioned to complete sculptures in Changchun China, Helen Arkansas, Atlanta Georgia and Kingston Jamaica to name a few. He will be conducting a series of workshops in the Art Department with students and a closing reception is scheduled on Thursday, February 27, 2014 from 5:30-7:00pm. The exhibit is free and open to the public.
