Congratulations to Chorn Poyner, today’s Hercules Scholar from Elizabeth City State University. This future CPA plans to attend East Carolina University to pursue his master’s degree in accounting.

Chorn is very active on campus, serving as the Vice President of Finance for the Student Government Association where he is responsible for managing all budgetary decisions. He also serves as the Chair for the Student Finance Committee and signs all purchase requisitions, travel forms, and other documents pertaining to the organization’s finances. Chorn also assists with the implementation of programs and activities that benefit the student body, serves as an ex-officio member of the University Tuition and Finance Committee, and provides assistance to the Office of Student Engagement and the Office of Admissions by assisting with campus tours and external/internal speaking events.

He is most influencd by Dr. Willie Brown, PhD, who served as a mentor throughout his life and recruited him to attend Elizabeth City State University.

Chorn lives his life according to the exerpt from Psalms 23: “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me.”
