The Tom Joyner Foundation is recognizing the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff in Pine Bluff, Ark. as the June 2013 School of the Month.

The foundation, formed by the nationally syndicated radio personality, chose the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff as part of its on-going effort to assist these institutions in broadening and strengthening their efforts to raise money to help keep students attending HBCUs.

As one of the Tom Joyner Foundation ‘Schools of the Month’, each school will be promoted by the Tom Joyner Morning Show and receive those funds raised from listeners, alumni and other interested parties that month. The show, aired in 115 markets around the country, reaches nearly eight million listeners every week.

The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) is an 1890 land-grant institution. UAPB offers competitive degree programs, possesses an outstanding faculty and attracts a diverse student population.

The 20:1 student to teacher ratio makes it possible to maintain a learning environment with close interaction between students and faculty. Students are able to seek and fulfill their potential by challenging curriculum. While UAPB students excel in the classroom, they also excel in out-of-class experiences by student involvement that includes 90 organizations such as the internationally renowned Vesper Choir, nationally recognized debate team and award-winning theatre department.

The university offers more than 30 undergraduate programs, master’s degree programs and certificate and associates degree programs. Students are readily prepared for the workplace through internships, co-ops and fellowships in the U.S. and abroad.

UAPB’s mission of a “No Excuse University” has provided a foundation of providing high quality education that is both affordable and caters to personal needs. As the second oldest land-grant institution in the state of Arkansas, the university has continued to create an environment with an emphasis on learning, growth and productivity while affording the necessary tools for students to advance.
