#TJFWHM18 Phylicia Rashad, African-American actress and Howard Grad

Phylicia Rashad is a Tony Award-winning African-American actress best known for her role as Clair Huxtable in the hit TV sitcom, “The Cosby Show”. She graduated from Howard University with a B.F.A. degree in Theater.

Aside from her television career, Rashad is also well known for her work on the big stage. She has starred in many Broadway and off-Broadway productions including Dreamgirls and The Wiz.

In 2004, Phylicia Rashad became the first African-American actress to win a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play for her character, Lena Younger, in A Raisin in the Sun.

Along with her Tony Award, she has received four NAACP Image Awards, a Black Reel Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress, and was a BET Honor Honoree for the Theatrical Arts Award.

Phylicia Rashad is a legend on and off the stage.
