#TJFBHM18: Anika Noni Rose, Actress and Florida A&M Grad

 

Anika Noni Rose is an actress and singer. The Connecticut-born star began her acting career in high school and continued pursuing her acting passion at Florida A&M University. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in theatre and studied drama at the American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco, California.

At the beginning of her career, she moved to New York City to find work. After a few months, she secured a role in Broadway’s Footloose. She has been in many on-screen films, including Dreamgirls, Disney’s animated feature The Princess and the Frog, For Colored Girls, the Starz series Power, BET’s The Quad and the remake of Alex Haley’s Roots.
