The Tom Joyner Foundation is partnering with the Tennessee State University Foundation (TSU Foundation), located in Nashville, Tenn., to help raise funds to support scholars attending Tennessee State.
As a partner with the Tom Joyner Foundation ‘Schools of the Month’, will be promoted on the Tom Joyner Morning Show and receive those funds raised from listeners, alumni and other interested parties that month. The show, aired in 115 markets around the country, reaches nearly eight million listeners every week.
Tennessee State University was founded in 1912 after its organization in 1909 as the Agricultural and Industrial State Normal School. The University has two campuses, both located in Nashville. Tennessee State offers 38 undergraduate degrees, 24 graduate degrees, 2 associate degrees, and 7 doctoral degrees. The current president, who is also an alumna, is Dr. Glenda Baskin Glover. Dr. Glover began serving as the eighth president on January 2, 2013.
Distinguished Tigers include: Dr. Alvin Crawford, the first African American to graduate from the University of Tennessee – College of Medicine; Dr. Catana Starks, the first female head coach of an NCAA Division I men’s golf team; Ralph Boston, Olympic athlete, three time medal winning long jumper; and Wilma Rudolph, the first American woman to win three gold medals in a single Olympics.
