Congratulations to Tahj Anderson, the first Hercules Scholar for our June School of the Month, Fort Valley State University. Tahj considers himself blessed as he is a Hurricane Katrina survivor. Tahj has learned being willing to help others is a requirement in today’s environment. Read more about Tahj below, in his own words.
After receiving my undergraduate degree, I plan to be in my career while achieving the goal of receiving my Masters. My career Goals are indecisive depending on my upcoming internship on the Warner Robins Air Force Base. I would like to have the option of working on a Military Base as a Supply Chain Specialist for a few years. Hopefully, adding that to my resume will help enhance my skillset and utilize my knowledge to start doing contract work for other businesses and companies. I plan to be saving a portion of my money to start a few small businesses. These small businesses will provide resources to help give back to my community and make a difference in society. I also plan personally to be in a position where I can give back to my community and support the upcoming youth.

Influential Person or Persons in Your Life
My Mother has influenced me in so many ways. She has shown me that life can take you down many paths and that the journey is where most of the memories are made. My mother and I have been through so much together. After surviving the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, I watched her grow and groom me through the years. She has shown me with God and will anything can be achieved. She has provided me with many opportunities to branch out and be exposed to all that the world has to offer. She has set an example for other role models in my life to meet the expectation that she displays. She understands her worth and value and everything I learned from her has helped mold me to the man I am today. She put her Faith in God when times were rough, and I do the same. She is most definitely an influential person in my life.
Motto to Live By
“The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather a lack of will.” – Vince Lombardi Every day I wake up I know there are goals that I am trying to reach, and it only comes from hard work and dedication. The will to keep moving forward even when everything around me is going the other direction. It all comes down to the question, How Bad Do You Truly want it?
