Never Stop Learning: Meet Frederick Brooks, Lawson State Hercules Scholar

Congratulations to today’s Hercules Scholar, Frederick Brooks, a sophomore from Birmingham, Alabama. The aspiring electrical engineer hopes to acquire his master’s degree and Ph. D after graduating from Lawson State Community College. Frederick also hopes to work with an organization whose focus is to impact the world with their products and inventions and as well as cultivate his growth as an engineer.

At Lawson State, Frederick is a member of the MAKERS program, which prepares its students for careers in STEM fields. The 4.0 scholar is also a member of the math team and is recipient of an award fro Spanish excellence.

In addition to his academics, Frederick is a dancer in a gospel rap group that has performed in schools, prisons and communities in Chicago, Michigan, Atlanta and across Alabama. The group also distributes food, clothing, school supplies and bikes to those in need in these communities.

Frederick is most influenced by his father, who raised him to be grounded in the word of God; his uncle, an architectural engineer who motivates him to pursue his future career; and those in his family, circle of friends and classes, who inspire him to overcome adversity and stand up for his beliefs.
