Miles College Celebrates National Library Week

Fairfield Ala. – In observance of National Library Week, the Miles College Kirkendoll Learning Resources Center (LRC) will host Patron Appreciation Day, Wednesday, April 13, 2016. Patrons can visit the LRC throughout the day to enjoy snacks and prizes, and have their fines waived.

On Friday, April 15, Ms. Odessa Woolfolk will be the guest speaker at a program where she will talk about books that have inspired her throughout her life and how she created her own personal library.

Ms. Woolfolk has donated over 1250 books from her personal library to the Miles College LRC. Ms. Woolfolk is a retired UAB Administrator; Founding President and Chair Emerita of the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute and Friend of Miles College. During the program, the LRC will also honor Its Best Faculty Patrons.

“Ms. Wollfolk’s gift will transform our library by strengthening our collection in the social Sciences, particularly the African Diaspora,” said Dr. Geraldine Bell, Director of the LRC. “This will move us closer to our goal of integrating our collection into the World Cat which gives users all over the world access to our collection, as well as other outstanding resources from participating libraries.”

Immediately after the program on Friday, there will be a reception honoring Ms. Woolfolk.
National Library Week is April 10 – 16, 2016. The theme this year is “Libraries Transform”. For more information contact the LRC at 205-929-1714.
