Message From NCCU Board of Trustees Chairman: NCCU Chancellor Search

Dear Members of the North Carolina Central University Community,

As a community, we are all still coming to terms with the loss of our late Chancellor, Debra Saunders-White. Chancellor Saunders-White was a tireless advocate for our institution and has left us with a great legacy and a bright future.

As we continue to grieve this deep loss, we must also call on our strength and turn to the important task of identifying a new leader for North Carolina Central University. I have recently communicated with UNC Board of Governors’ Chair Lou Bissette and UNC President Margaret Spellings to discuss next steps regarding a Chancellor search.

I will serve as chairman of the Chancellor Search Committee, and pledge to conduct a search that is inclusive of our community and represents the high standards we set for ourselves as a leading institution of public higher education in North Carolina. I have begun to work closely with UNC General Administration to put in place the necessary arrangements to conduct a successful search. As soon as further details are available, I will provide an update on the process. In the meantime, a web page has been established, which will continually be updated with information as this process proceeds.

I look forward to engaging with all of you as we work together to identify the next leader of our great institution and to advance the proud tradition of “Eagle Excellence.” Sincerely, George R. Hamilton
