Lack of Resources, Visionary Leadership Puts HBCU Storytelling in Hands of Outsiders

June 7, 2013 by Jeremy Eackles

Here’s the truth. Often burdened with teaching loads twice and (sometimes three times) that of their counterparts at Traditionally White Institutions (TWIs), HBCU faculty don’t have the time or the resources necessary to establish a CMSI-like center. Secondly, even when HBCU faculty rise above these daunting hurdles, it is often difficult, if not impossible, to secure the support of HBCU leadership.

A center like the CMSI does not exist at an HBCU because no HBCU president has successfully fought for the establishment of one on his or her campus.
