Frankfort, Ky. – The Kentucky State University Board of Regents announced today the approval of the contract for interim President Raymond M. Burse. The annual salary of $259,744.04 is included in his contract.
Board Chair Karen Bearden said the board recognized Burse’s value as commensurate with other college presidents and had originally offered him an annual salary in the amount of $349,869. Burse, however, asked the board to use the difference from the original offer and the final salary amount to bring the pay of 24 employees up to $10.25.
“This board recognizes his skills and talents and his value as a president and as a senior management executive,” Bearden said about the interim president.
Burse was president of Kentucky State University from 1982 to 1989. He retired as an executive at General Electric Company, in 2012, after 17 years.
Also at the meeting, Dr. Karen Bearden was re-elected as chair and Charles Whitehead was re-elected as vice chair of the board. In addition, the status of Dr. Edwin Conner, who retired from teaching in KSU’s Whitney M. Young Honors program, was elevated to faculty emeriti. Student Government Association President Breana Smith was sworn in as student regent.
