The Marcus Roberts Trio will headline Huston-Tillotson University’s “All-Steinway School” concert, scheduled Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017, at 5 p.m. on the campus at 900 Chicon Street in King-Seabrook Chapel. In addition, the concert will also feature the Huston-Tillotson University Concert Choir, under the direction of Dr. Gloria Quinlan.
Pianist/composer Marcus Roberts has been hailed as “the genius of the modern piano”. In 2014, the celebrated CBS News television show, 60 Minutes, profiled his life and work on a segment entitled “The Virtuoso”. The show traced Roberts’ life to date from his early roots in Jacksonville and at the Florida School for the Deaf and Blind to his remarkable career as a modern jazz musician.
Huston-Tillotson University recently became an “All-Steinway School” following a gift of $800,000 for the purchase of 15 Steinway pianos. The acquisition makes HT the only institution of higher learning in Central Texas, the fourth HBCU in the country, and the 196th college/university in the world to earn the coveted “All-Steinway School” title.
Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at https://htallsteinwayconcert.
