Congratulations to Huston Tillotson University Hercules Scholar, Cruz Ginns Jr. Cruz has been selected as this week’s recipient of the $1,500 scholarship from the Tom Joyner Foundation. Read more about Cruz below in his own words.

After graduating from Huston Tillotson University, I plan to continue my studies in order to obtain my master’s degree. Also, I plan on working for a company in their marketing department, bringing all of the high quality skills that my university and staff have instilled in me. Aside from pursuing a marketing career, I plan to grow my personal businesses including organized basketball league and videography.

At Huston Tillotson,  I currently serve as the Senior class president for the class of 2020. Also, I work in several departments on campus including: Enrollment Management, Registrar’s Office, Admissions and the Men’s Basketball Program. Lastly, I am the Residence Assistant for all male dorms on campus.

The most influential person in my life is my strong, God-fearing mother. My mother is a single parent of two living on the south east side of Houston, where poverty has been at an all-time high. She has managed to beat the odds and graduate college while raising my older brother and I. Watching her prevail through tough times has inspired and motivated me to be the man I am today. In addition, every person that has helped me in my life, no matter big or small, are influential to me as well.
