January 21, 2016 by Cherie S. White

Student: Gary Wood

Hometown: District Heights, Maryland

GPA : 3.6

Classification / Major  : Freshman – Criminal Justice

Gary Wood named the Tom Joyner Foundation Hercules Scholar for the North Carolina Central University School of the month campaign.

Gary says that “With all the injustice occurring in today’s court system I believe I can make a significant change. I witnessed innocent people lose opportunities because of poor representation. This burned the fire in me to become a Civil Lawyer.”

On campus, Mr. Wood is very involved as well. He is a Centennial Scholar of theNorth Carolina Central University Men’s Achievement Center and Vice President of Community Council of New Residence Hall 1 and 2. I am also a member of Metro Eagles, Residence Hall Association and Freshmen Class Council.

The most influential people in his life , he says are his grandparents . They have taught me how to do the right thing and own up to my actions.

The motto he lives by is “ Today may not be the best so tomorrow must be brighter”.
