Freshman at Wiley College Receives $1,500 Hercules Scholarship

Hometown: Stafford, TX.

GPA: 3.6

Major / Classification : Biology / Freshman

Ruben Hancock  named this week’s Tom Joyner Foundation Hercules Scholar

Ruben is in his freshman year at Wiley College and upon leaving the university he would like to pursue his ultimate goal of becoming a nurse practitioner or an oncology nurse.

When Mr. Hancock is not in the classroom he is on the baseball field. He is a member of the Wiley College baseball team and he is also a middle school mentor.

Ruben says  the most influential people in his life is his parents and his younger sister. He says ” they have been by my side every step of the way ”

The motto he lives by  is “Never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game ”
