Jackie Berry named this week’s Tom Joyner Foundation Hercules Scholar

Jackie is a freshman studying computer technology at Bowie State University. His goal is to work in the computer network/cyber security field. He and his twin brother, Jackie, who is also a Bowie State student, are the first in their family to attend college.

Before graduating from high school, Jackie earned a computer networking certification. At Bowie State, he is a member of the Forensic Technology Information Cyber Squad.

Jackie is dedicated to giving back to his community. He has completed hundreds of hours of community service with Meals on Wheels in his hometown. He also volunteers for the career center where he earned his network certification. There, he teaches kids the importance of cyber security and how to protect themselves on the web.

He says that Steve Jobs is the most influential person in his life. He admires Jobs’s creative, innovative ideas and his ability to pull people together.

Like Jobs, Jackie has an innovative spirit. He lives by the motto: “Every accomplishment starts with the decision to try.”
