Elizabeth City State University Announces 2018 Football Schedule

The inaugural schedule of the Anthony Jones era of Elizabeth City State University football is highlighted by exhilarating Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association, Eastern College Athletic Conference, and Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchups during the 2018 season.

The Vikings will open the season September 1 with the first of four games at home in Roebuck Stadium against SIAC foe Central State University (OH) at 1:00 p.m. for ECSU Hall of Fame/Military Appreciation/First Responder’s Day before traveling to Eastern College Athletic Conference and in-state rival UNC-Pembroke September 8 in Grace P. Johnson Stadium.

“We are very excited about the introductory of the Anthony Jones era with one of the most challenging football schedules in program history,” said ECSU Interim Athletic Director Claudie Mackey. “It provides not only great exposure for the football program, but also Elizabeth City State University. We look forward to seeing Viking Nation and supporting our student-athletes from all corners of the country.”

ECSU football will face CIAA Southern division Winston-Salem State University for its 21st Annual Down east Viking Football Classic held in Rocky Mount, N.C. on September 15, in addition to playing sister-school and southern division foe, Fayetteville State University in Luther Nick Jeralds Stadium to open conference play.

Jones will face two new head coaches in the conference as well as the one coach he previously coached and held a rivalry against in the Southwestern Athletic Conference, Reggie Barlow (Virginia State University head coach).

The 10-game schedule also features a home game with Saint Augustine’s University on September 29 in Roebuck Stadium for Community Appreciation/Take a Kid to the Game Day before traveling to Ettrick, Va. on October 6 to face 2017 CIAA Champion Virginia State in Rogers Stadium.

The Vikings will then travel to Lincoln, Pa. on October 13 to face the Lincoln (PA) Lions before coming back home to host rival Chowan University on October 20 for its Think Pink Day.

The Vikings will host Virginia Union University for Senior Day/Homecoming in Roebuck Stadium on October 27 at 1:00 p.m. before traveling to Bowie State University on November 3 to face Bowie State in Bulldog Stadium.

The 2018 CIAA Championship is scheduled for Nov. 10 in Salem, Va. at Salem Football Stadium.

Elizabeth City State will host its 2018 ECSU Viking Fest/Opening House this Saturday from 10-2 beginning at the Fine Arts Building and will eventually end up at Roebuck Stadium. Coach Jones will be in attendance and we’ll have schedule cards and posters on-hand.
