JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Edward Waters College (EWC) Athletic Department is pleased to report that four of the institution’s athletic programs earned the distinction of “NAIA Scholar Teams” for the 2013-14 academic year. Every school year the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) offers the academic award based on a team’s grade point average rather than individual classroom performance.

For a team to be considered for the NAIA Scholar Team award, it must have a minimum 3.0 grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale) as defined by the institution. The team’s grade-point average includes all varsity student-athletes certified as eligible.

Earning the honor this year are EWC’s baseball, volleyball, women’s track and field, and women’s cross country teams.

  • Women’s Cross-Country, 3.28 GPA
  • Women’s Track and Field,  3.17 GPA
  • Women’s Volleyball, 3.11 GPA
  • Baseball, 3.06 GPA

A third of the students that attend Edward Waters College also play for an athletic team. They must maintain at least a 2.0 GPA to remain eligible to participate. Every Edward Waters College student-athlete will begin their journey once again to qualify for NAIA individual and team awards when fall classes start August 19, 2014.
