Delta Sigma Theta was founded on the campus of Howard University January 13th, 1908 by 22 women. Since it’s inception, the sorority has grown to a sisterhood of more than 300,000 initiated members who are predominantly black college-educated women.
The sorority currently has more than 1,000 chapters located in the United States, England, Japan (Tokyo and Okinawa), Germany, the Virgin Islands, Jamaica, Bermuda, the Bahamas and the Republic of Korea, making it the largest African American Women’s organization in the world.
Living by the motto “Intelligence is the Torch of Wisdom” the women of Delta Sigma Theta aim to empower women and their surrounding communities.
We’re celebrating the women of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority today on its founder’s day. We’re asking that our supporter’s & member’s of Delta Sigma Theta sorority donate $19.08 to their favorite HBCU in honor of Delta Sigma Theta’s founding year.[donate_button button_type=”custom” title=”Donate $19.13 – Tom Joyner Foundation / Delta Sigma Theta Founders Day” style=”wdf-basic”]
