Writer, minister, scholar Dr. Michael Eric Dyson exhorted graduates to “S.O.A.R” during the Fall Commencement ceremony held Saturday, December 15, 2018, at the Mary McLeod Bethune Performing Arts Center in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Dyson made several references to the influence and importance of founder Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune, noting that the historic university “bears the name of one of the greatest figures in American education. She was a great leader, a great woman of the people.”
An audience of 0ver 2,500 were in attendance as Dyson inspired the graduates to use their talents to “resurrect the greatness of our people with excellence and zeal,” as they embark on their chosen careers, service commitments and earn their proverbial seats at the table.
There were 195 degrees conferred. Dyson was awarded a Doctor of Humane Letters. Additional highlights were the presentation of the Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Medallion to Mrs. Beverly Patrick and Mrs. Lee Bryan and the U.S. Army commissioning ceremony of Courtney Johnson. Watch the commencement HERE
