Rev. Dr. Bernice A. King announces that Alabama State University’s newly appointed president will be the keynote speaker At The 47th Annual Martin Luther King Jr.commemorative service on January 19, 2015.
This special event will take place at the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church and will celebrate Dr. King’s 86th birthday anniversary & the 30th observance of the King holiday. Dr. Boyd’s selection as keynote speaker magnifies the connection between Dr. King & Alabama State University. Dr.King studied and prepared for his dissertation requirements for his Ph.D at Boston University in ASU’s library. Dr. King was also provided a safe haven on the campus of ASU when the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church was bombed during the Montgomery bus boycott. Dr. Kings daughter Bernice King spoke elaborating on Dr. Boyd’s address saying “Beyond the historical linkage, however, Dr. Boyd is also an engaging speaker with oratorical abilities that are surpassed only by her passion for social justice and equality.” Many consider Alabama the home of the Civil Rights Movement, other program participants include state elected officials, social change advocates, community leaders and members of the faith community. The program will be televised locally in Atlanta by Fox 5.
Alabama State University was the Tom Joyner Foundation’s October school of the month. Although their month has passed, it’s never too late to make a donation and support ASU. If you would like to make a donation to Alabama State University’s school of the month campaign Click Here.
