Tom Joyner Foundation to Host ‘Art & Hors d’Oeuvres’ Reception to Raise Money for Florida Memorial University
(Dallas – April 2) As part of its on-going commitment to education and black art, the Tom Joyner Foundation is hosting an “Art & Hors d’Oeuvres” fundraiser to raise money to help students at Florida Memorial University.
The event, brought to you by Tom Joyner and SouthStreet Miami, will take place between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Friday, April 5 at the Purvis Young Museum, 255 NW 23rd Street, Miami, Fla. Tickets will cost $40 per person in advance or $50 at the door. They can be purchased online at TomJoynerFoundation.org. (http://tomjoynerfoundation.eventbrite.com/).
John Solomon Sandridge (www.johnsolomonsandridge.com), is a nationally acclaimed painter/sculptor, who was the first and only African American to secure an exclusive contract with Coco-Cola and produced many paintings used on various objects. Other local artists, including Robert McKnight, Loni Johnson and Neith Nevelson, will be among the other artists who will be donating proceeds from the sales of their work to the Tom Joyner Foundation School of the Month campaign for Florida Memorial University. Dr. Mary A. O’Banner, Florida Memorial University’s acting president, alumni and other university administrators will attend. Local social, business and civic leaders and members of the local fraternities and sororities are invited to attend.
Florida Memorial is the Foundation’s April School of the Month at which time the university will be part of a nationally publicized fundraising campaign promoted by the Tom Joyner Morning Show, heard in more than 100 markets around the country reaching more than 8 million listeners every week. HOT105-FM, home of the Tom Joyner Morning Show, will also be at the reception.
The FMU Jazz Quartet and other special guests are scheduled to appear.
