Supporters also voted for Grambling State University to receive a separate $50,000 donation for scholarships

DALLAS, January 3, 2014 – Allstate and the Tom Joyner Foundation announced today that students, alumni and supporters of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) have raised $185,000 as part of the fifth annual Allstate Quotes for Education program.

The unprecedented milestone exceeds the originally set goal of $150,000, representing a huge groundswell of support for HBCUs, many of which have experienced deep federal and state budget cuts to funding for student loans programs.

For every person who received an insurance quote from a participating Allstate agent and mentioned Quotes for Education between August 1 and Nov. 30, 2013, Allstate donated $10, up to a total donation of $185,000. The funds will be donated to the Tom Joyner Foundation and will be earmarked for general scholarship funds to assist students attending HBCUs.

Allstate Quotes for EducationAs part of the campaign, students, alumni and HBCU supporters voted for Grambling State University, Grambling, LA as their favorite HBCU.  The university will receive a separate $50,000 donation from Allstate for scholarships. In 2012, Lincoln University of Missouri won the inaugural competition and distributed scholarship funds to 25 students.

“I want to thank everybody who took the time to get an insurance quote with Allstate and voted for their favorite HBCU,” said Tom Joyner, chairman and founder of the 15-year-old foundation and host of the nationally syndicated morning radio show. “Allstate has been a great partner with the Foundation because they share my passion and belief that HBCUs continue to play a vital role in educating our country’s future doctors, lawyers, entrepreneurs, athletes, civic and community leaders.”

This marks the third year that Allstate has partnered with the Tom Joyner Foundation for the Quotes for Education program. Additionally, for the past nine years, Allstate has title-sponsored the Allstate Tom Joyner Family Reunion. Both programs are part of Allstate’s year-round commitment to create, support and sponsor programs that empower the African-American community.

“We are very proud to partner again with the Tom Joyner Foundation on the Quotes for Education program as we are both passionate about helping students achieve their life-long dreams through education,” said Lisa Cochrane, senior vice president of integrated marketing communications for Allstate. “Surpassing the $150,000 goal this year will help us reach out and assist more students with their educational finances, and we could not be more thrilled about that. Congratulations to Grambling State University, and we look forward to next year!”
