Event to Celebrate $50,000 Scholarship Award Presentation to Grambling University
DALLAS, February 4, 2014 – Allstate Insurance Company and the Tom Joyner Foundation will be presenting a check for $50,000 to Grambling State University as part of the annual Allstate Quotes for Education program, designed to help raise money for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).
Grambling State University, located in Grambling, La., won the second annual Allstate Quotes for Education fan vote for ‘school pride’ and will receive the $50,000 donation from Allstate for student scholarships.
The ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. at the T.H. Harris Auditorium on the campus of Grambling State University. The presentation will feature appearances by Tom Joyner, the chairman and founder of the Tom Joyner Foundation, Thomas Joyner, Jr., the foundation’s president and CEO, Grambling President Dr. Frank G. Pogue, and veteran local Allstate agent Carlos Boston from Shreveport, Louisiana.
Allstate and the Tom Joyner Foundation joined together to engage students, alumni and supporters of HBCUs across the country to raise scholarship funds as part of the fifth annual Allstate Quotes for Education program: for every person who received an insurance quote from a participating Allstate agent and mentioned Quotes for Education between Aug. 1 and Nov. 30, 2013, Allstate donated $10, up to a total donation of $185,000. The funds will be donated to the Tom Joyner Foundation and earmarked for general scholarship funds to assist students attending HBCUs.
For the second year, school fans also had a chance to vote for the HBCU of their choice to receive an additional $50,000 donation for scholarships. This year, as announced above, Grambling State University fans showed the most ‘school pride’ by voting online for their favorite HBCU winning the $50,000. Grambling State supporters employed social media tools as well as word-of-mouth networking to successfully engage alumni, students, faculty and staff in the fan vote campaign.
In addition to the Quotes for Education program, Allstate has title-sponsored the Allstate Tom Joyner Family Reunion for the past nine years. Both programs are part of Allstate’s year-round commitment to create, support and sponsor programs that empower the African American community.
