Alabama State University’s 290th Commencement Takes Place Today


Today is the big day! 300 hundred students will walk across the stage as graduates of Alabama State University with Bachelor, Masters and Doctoral degrees. ASU’s 290th commencement will be held at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome today at 3p.m.

Over 3,000 are expected to be in attendance. Today’s commencement address will be delivered by long time Hornet, Dean Evelyn Hodge. Dean Hodge has served at ASU for over 3 decades in a variety of positions including director, dean of ASU’s college of education,and professor.

Dean Hodge holds a bachelor’s degree from Albany State University, a master’s degree from Bowling Green State University, an education specialist degree from Troy State University and a doctoral degree from Florida State University.

Hodge is a member of Kappa Delta Gamma Society, Kappa Delta Pi, Alpha Chi Honor Society, International Reading Association, Alpha Kappa Mu, National Education Association and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. She has earned numerous awards and recognitions, including Alabama Science Association Award, First African-American President of Alabama Staff Development Council, 2005 Governor’s Reading Summit and Outstanding Teacher’s Award).

After the conclusion of the Commencement Ceremony, graduates should report to the Office of Records and Registration in the Garrick Hardy Student Center To obtain your diploma. You are to present your picture ID card (driver’s license or ASU ID card) to the Office of Records and Registration personnel at the table who will verify your name on their graduation clearance list. Once cleared, you will be given an envelope containing your diploma.

Please Note: The Diploma Station will open IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING the Commencement recessional. The station will only be open for ONE HOUR after the recessional.
