It is a tremendous honor for me to serve Mississippi Valley State University as the eighth President. I am humbled that the IHL Board and university community have the confidence in me to lead this institution as we move the university forward to greater heights. We will continue to put students first and foremost in all of the services we provide to assure they are prepared to be the next generation of leaders for our communities.
Over the years, as I advanced my career working within higher education, many of my colleagues and mentors suggested that I had the disposition, fortitude, and dedication to student success to someday become a university president. However, I always said that if given this opportunity, I didn’t want to just be a president, but rather THE president at the right institution that
would carry me for the rest of my career. Fate has brought that perfect moment to me, and I am so overjoyed and blessed to be at a university that values the importance of our history and existence here in the Mississippi Delta.
It has been two weeks since my official appointment as President of Mississippi Valley State University, the educational jewel of the Mississippi Delta. While it feels surreal at moments, I am fully aware of our paths forward as we continue to assure growth and success for the university.
Historically Black Colleges and Universities have been a staple in our nation’s higher education system for
the past 150 years. HBCUs have and will continue to face unique challenges. Yet, the impact these schools have on our students is irrefutable. So, while the challenges that lie ahead are inevitable, we must remember that we here at Valley have always risen to the top, and we will continue to do so.
I am humbled to have the opportunity to serve alongside you as we work to prioritize enrollment, offer exceptional academic programs, and serve as a valuable partner in the development of our surrounding communities. I sincerely appreciate your continued support, and I look forward to forging ahead with each of you as we continue to move our “One Goal. One Team. One Valley. …In Motion.”
