Tougaloo professor Kimberly Morgan Myles named Humanities Council Teacher of the Year

Professor Kimberly Morgan- Myles received the Humanities Council’s Teacher of the Year award on Monday, October 30, 2017. The Humanities Council selects an outstanding humanities educator at each of the state’s institutions for higher learning every year, which includes a cash award along with a lecture presentation by the honoree. Professor Morgan-Myles’ lecture, entitled “Beauty and the Beast: The Aesthetics of Self-Actualizations and Faith: Operating Within a Society of Compromise, Inclusion and Polarization in Theatre, Film and Television”, focused on Morgan-Myles’ experiences in the entertainment industry, including the pageant world, as she prepared for the Miss Mississippi competition and after she won the title of Miss Mississippi in 2007.

When told “In order to get something, you must give something” by an industry executive, she was faced with the “beast”, or dark side, of the industry and realized that she would never compromise her morals to get ahead. Professor Kimberly MorganMyles, Tougaloo salutes you!
