(DALLAS – September 10) The Tom Joyner Foundation is urging supporters of Historically Black Colleges and Universities to participate in the 2015 North Texas Giving Day as part of the annual drive organized by the Communities Foundation of Texas
The Foundation is asking alumni, students, and lovers of HBCUs to go to TomJoynerFoundation.org between 7 a.m. to Midnight on September 17, click on the “North Texas Giving Day” button and donate to the foundation.
“Here’s your chance to help students fulfill their dreams of getting a college education at an HBCU,” said Tom Joyner, the Foundation’s chairman and host of the nationally syndicated radio morning show. “For more than 17 years, we’ve been committed to investing in these students – and these colleges – because they serve a special role in developing future leaders.”
Over the years, the Foundation has participated in North Texas Giving Day in several ways, including in 2012 when it held a special event with celebrity chef Tiffany Derry at Paul Quinn College to raise funds for its “We Over Me” Community Garden, located on two acres of what used to be the college’s football field.
About the Tom Joyner Foundation:
The Tom Joyner Foundation (http://tomjoynerfoundation.org) was founded in 1998 as the brainchild of nationally syndicated radio personality Tom Joyner. The mission of the Foundation is to support historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) with scholarships, endowments and capacity-building enhancements. The Foundation has provided necessary support to every HBCU in its 14-year history to help sustain and preserve the legacies of these valuable institutions. Through fundraising and donor development initiatives, $65 million has been raised to support more than 29,000 students attending HBCUs. Additionally, the Foundation has recommended internships, offered matching grant support, and career development to deserving students. You can follow us on Facebook and Twitter.
Alumni, friends and supporters of HBCUs: Mark your calendars today!
The 2015 North Texas Giving Day will take place between 6:00 a.m. and Midnight, Thursday, September 17 th.
It’s your chance to help support the Tom Joyner Foundation, which has been dedicated to investing in the mission of HBCUs since 1998. On this day, your donations will make a difference in students’ lives by supporting the TJF North Texas Scholarship Fund for North Texas area students who plan to attend an HBCU in Fall 2016 and also your donations will support the only HBCU in the North Texas area, Paul Quinn College. And remember, 100% of your donations go to support these students who are pursuing their dreams at HBCUs.
Please remember to share this note with your friends and family.
Your support – at any level – goes a long way to making a difference in a student’s life.
Five Dollars goes a long way for a college student. Studies show that 90% of HBCU graduates have student loan debt. Only 13% of HBCU Alumni actually give back. At the Tom Joyner Foundation, we want to help students lower their student debt and increase donations from HBCU alumni.
We’re kicking off “TJF $5 Dollar Fridays”!
This campaign is designed to allow all HBCU supporters, whether you’re an alumni or a current student, the opportunity to support their favorite HBCU with a small but impactful amount of money! $5 may seem like a small amount, but that’s the beauty of the campaign, we must come together to make a big difference.
When you donate on Fridays, share your donation to your social media and use the hash tag #TJF5DollarFridays. Remember your donation will allow TJF to continue its mission and the gift you receive will allow you to help a young adult in your community prepare for college.

You can give to The Tom Joyner Foundation or any other 501(C) (3) organization in many different ways.
1. CASH GIFTS can be made on-line by credit card, by mailing in checks or by payroll deductions. The most common is a restricted one-time donation when the donor specifies that the funds are forwarded to a particular Historically Black College and University (HBCU) or the donation can be unrestricted. In this instance, all funds are placed into the Foundation’s General HBCU Fund and these funds are shared with HBCUs based on programming needs.
Cash gifts also may be made in the form of a pledge. As a donor, you commit to donate a certain amount within a certain period of time. A pledge may be restricted or unrestricted, and is usually completed within 12 months, unless otherwise agreed upon.
A popular gifting process is ANNUAL GIFTS. Individuals decide on making an ongoing donation, usually in monthly payroll deductions, via planning giving institutions such as United Way or the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) or a company employee giving system.
In all case, donors are encouraged to seek a matching gift where you can multiply the impact of your gift if your employer matches the funds you give MATCHING GIFTS information may be obtained from your company’s human resources department.
2. Individuals who own STOCKS, BONDS AND SECURITIES can gift them and reap the tax advantages.
3. IN-KIND GIFTS such as gifts of artwork, collectibles, and antiques also can be donated to the Foundation. Proceeds from the sale of these items would be added to the Foundation General Fund, unless restricted by the donor.
4. You may also make a PLANNED GIFT to The Tom Joyner Foundation by including us in your estate or will. This will allow you to continue a legacy of giving. You can choose to give all or just a portion of your net worth and give in conjunction with your planned gift to your heirs as well as other organizations such as your church or synagogue.
5. Finally, you might want to make a BLENDED GIFT, giving cash now and making a planned donation, alone or with other family members, friends, or other organizations.
If you would like to investigate an option for giving now or in the future, simply email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. We’d love to help celebrate you, and your legacy and show some HBCU Love at the same time!
