‘I Was Determined to Achieve’: First Generation HBCU Student, Dr. Shakira Lynn

Name: Dr. Shakira Lynn

HBCU attended: South Carolina State University

Hometown: Athens, Georgia

Shakira’s HBCU experience: “Attending South Carolina State as an undergraduate provided the foundation that I needed to grow as a woman. I enjoyed working alongside other motivated students to solidify my career in nursing and obtain my Bachelors degree. My parents did not attend college, so I was determined to achieve that accomplishment for my family. I went on to obtain a Masters in Nursing and ultimately a Doctorate Degree in Nursing. ”
