150th Commencement Exercise
Holly Springs, Miss. – Dr. Leonard Haynes, III, a 1968 graduate of Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana will deliver the keynote address at Rust College’s 150th anniversary com-mencement on April 24. Haynes earned his B.A. degree in History from Southern University, a M.A. in American History from Carnegie-Mellon University, and the Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from The Ohio State University. He is a career member of the Senior Executive Service for the United States and a member of many notable societies, boards, commissions, civic organizations, and professional organizations, including History Makers, Who’s Who in America, Phi Delta Kappa, The Cosmos Club of Washington, D.C., Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity, and the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.
Haynes has previously served as Executive President of the Southern University System, U. S. Assistant Secretary for Post secondary Education, Director of Academic Programs for the United States Information Agency, Senior Assistant to the President of American University, Acting President of Grambling State University, and Senior Advisor to the Superintendent of the District of Columbia’s Public Schools. He has served on the faculty at Howard University, the Uni-versity of Maryland, Southern University and a fellow with the Brookings Institution. He has been the recipient of numerous recognition and honors.
Approximately 138 undergraduate students are to be awarded degrees from Rust College in 2016, its 150th anniversary.
This year’s class will be able to say they graduated from Rust at one of the most exciting points in its history. As we approach the next 150 years of Rust College, we are poised to change the face of higher education with our revolutionary approach to class delivery methods have
reaffirmed our commitment to the state, nation and World of providing quality graduates for leadership and service.
The College’s commencement ceremony will be held in the W.A. McMillan Multi-Purpose Center/Kinzell Lawson Gymnasium on Sunday, April 24, at 2:00 PM.
